When designing the Topkapi range, begun in 1989, the company Beauvillé, situated in Ribeauvillé in Alsace, looked back to a museum-piece pattern from the first half of the 19th century. The range was named after the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, where in the Sultan's throne room are some curtains which resemble the design of the line. In their tone-on-tone colouring, however, Topkapi recalls silk damask, widespread from the end of the 17th century above all as a material for curtains and wall coverings. 100% cotton. Washable at 40 °C. Napkin dimensions 55 x 55 cm.
The production of printed textiles has a long tradition in Alsace. As early as 1759 this handicraft was raised to a prestigious, privileged branch of industry by a Royal decree of Louis XV. Traditionally, top-quality cotton is woven into cloth with a lightly roughened surface, in order to guarantee extra luminance of the colours.
