The ladies' version of the duffle coat, which only differs from the men's version by the altered cut. Originally the duffle coat was designed for the seamen in the Royal Navy. They valued the thick wool which protected from extreme weather conditions. The coat became famous because of Fieldmarshall Montgomery, who wore his duffle coat over his uniform and it was therefore also called a 'Monty coat' in Great Britain. The duffle coat is the only classic coat which has a hood, which is a definite advantage in the cold and wind. It is a three-quarter-length coat, has pockets attached and is fastened with the characteristic buffalo horn toggles. Our duffle coat is from Gloverall, who were charged with the task of marketing the coats left in army depots to the general public after the war. They did this so successfully that new orders were soon commissioned. A British duffle coat is always made of "double face" fabric these days, which is monotone on the outside and inside has a classic tartan.
